Your ships already sail the right routes. Now let the wind help.

You didn't build your fleet to be a showcase. You built it to carry cargo reliably, safely and at a profit. We're not asking you to buy a new ship or rebuild a deck. We're asking you to let the wind share the work on the ships you already run.

What changes on board.

  • Your fuel bill

Less fuel burned on every leg where the wind is on your side. Modelled at up to 49% for four rigs on a Panamax at 12 knots; your route and speed decide your number.

  • Your carbon bill

Every tonne of fuel not burned is roughly 3.1 tonnes of CO₂ you don't pay for under EU ETS, UK ETS or FuelEU Maritime.

  • Your cargo

At around 150 tonnes per rig, cargo intake is largely preserved.

  • Your crew

The rig trims itself. The bridge sets the mode; the control system does the sailing.

  • Your charterers

A better carbon intensity rating makes your ship easier to fix with charterers who report their emissions.

Run the numbers on your own vessel

The rules have caught up with what owners already knew.

Burning less fuel is now worth more than the fuel itself.

  • FuelEU Maritime

Applies to ships of 5,000 GT and above calling at EU and EEA ports. GHG intensity limits tighten from 2% in 2025 to 80% by 2050. Wind propulsion earns a reward factor of 0.99 to 0.95, cutting your calculated GHG intensity by up to 5%.

    In force
  • EU ETS

Shipping emissions are now fully in scope. Each tonne of CO₂ needs an allowance.

    In force
  • UK ETS

Domestic maritime coverage for ships of 5,000 GT and above.

    From 1 Jul 2026
  • IMO Net-Zero Framework

A global fuel standard and greenhouse gas pricing mechanism for international shipping.

Become a launch partner.

Every technology that changed shipping had a first owner willing to prove it at sea. We're looking for ours: an owner or operator who wants their vessels to be the ones the rest of the industry studies.

Type Approval will be completed with the launch partner, so the certified design reflects a real vessel class. Yours.

What launch partners get

  • The rig shaped for your vessel class, co-developed with our engineers
  • Priority build slots from the Batam factory
  • Preferred pricing for your fleet
  • A share in what comes next, with terms to suit the partnership

Questions from owners and operators.

More on the technology and the rules in our guide to wind-assisted propulsion.

How does wind propulsion help with FuelEU Maritime?

Two ways. Burning less fuel lowers the energy your ship uses, and FuelEU Maritime applies a wind reward factor between 0.99 and 0.95, depending on the wind's share of propulsion power, which lowers the ship's calculated greenhouse gas intensity by up to 5%.

Does it reduce my EU ETS and UK ETS costs?

Yes. Every tonne of fuel not burned is roughly 3.1 tonnes of CO₂ you don't need allowances for on in-scope voyages.

Will the rigs cost me cargo capacity?

At around 150 tonnes per rig, cargo intake is largely preserved. The rigs stand on the centreline between hatch covers and lower for cargo operations.

How long is the payback?

For the reference vessel, an 80,000 DWT Panamax at 12 knots with EU carbon costs, payback is modelled at about 3.8 years. Your route, speed and fuel price decide your number. Run your own vessel.

How many rigs can my ship carry?

One, two or four, depending on deck length, hatch layout and route. A Panamax bulk carrier takes four.

How do I get an analysis for one of my ships?

Send the vessel name or IMO number and its main trading routes through our contact form, or email robert@windship.tech. We'll return a fuel, carbon and payback analysis for that ship.
