Proven before promised.
Shipowners have been sold a lot of green promises. We'd rather show our working. Everything on this page was done by someone other than us.
Independent validation.
| Body | What they did | Result |
|---|---|---|
| DNV | Reviewed the design, engineering analysis and CFD against class requirements | Approval in Principle, 6 September 2021 |
| Wolfson Unit, University of Southampton | Wind tunnel testing of the triple-wing rig | Lift and drag data used in the performance model |
| Lloyd's Register | Computational fluid dynamics analysis | Completed |
| Cape Horn Engineering | Aerodynamic performance optimisation | Completed |
“This is not an unreasonable projection provided appropriate operational routes using optimal routing are adopted and at ships speeds below 12 knots.”
Wolfson Unit conclusions, on Windship's projection of about 30% annual savings for a rigged bulker or tanker
What Approval in Principle means.
Approval in Principle is a classification society's formal confirmation that a new design is feasible and that no significant obstacle stands in the way of full approval.
It follows detailed engineering review. The next step is Type Approval, which certifies the production design for installation on ships.
Windship will complete Type Approval with its first launch partner, so that the certified design reflects a real vessel class.

What we haven't done yet.
The Windship rig has not yet sailed on a commercial vessel. That's the next step, and it's the one we want to take with a launch partner.
Being honest about that is part of how we work.
We're looking for the first fleet.
An owner or operator who shares our belief and wants their vessels to be the ones the rest of the industry studies.
